Brian Robertson
"The rhythm of the city is a flowing pop-locking line; Streams of patterns running through our lives with sweeping floods. I am attempting to find the visual golden mean of the urban environment. By reducing forms I learned from graffiti letter styles I create characters of another kind. Using fast fluid strokes I sculpt shapes that speak through the subtler languages of the body and nature. I use many mediums each with their own distinct character, separated but forced together into fluid, dancing, symbiotic beings.""The paper in my work is a direct reflection of my love of the poster art, guerilla wheat-pasting and flyering of city streets. I find the patterns and textures made from the posting, re-posting, tearing and weathering in the ignored areas of public visual space are beautiful and rich with temporary history. I try to re-create this effect in my work by creating a sense of time through carefully sculpting and inlaying each piece of paper into shapes that interact and become part of the subjects."
Brian Robertson grew up writing graffiti in Albuquerque N.M. Since migrating to Denver for art school in 2000, Brian has been an active part of the thriving Denver art Scene.
