Lauri Lynnxe Murphy
Lauri Lynnxe Murphy is an artist and provocateur living in Denver, Colorado. Her work ranges from multi-component painting installations to textiles to fiberglass sculptures, and is primarily concerned with the construction of narrative through random juxtaposed elements. Her recent work has focused on the lived landscape and transgenic species manipulation. Although trained as a painter, her “paintings” have become more sculptural over time, and sometimes don’t even include paint.
Called a “one woman art scene” by Westword, she is also a curator, writer, and educator, and considers community building an art form unto itself. She was the co-founder of ILK co-op, owned Capsule Gallery, and is now the founder of Boom, a nomadic co-op gallery. In 2005 she was the recipient of Westword’s first Mastermind Award, and in 2006 was chosen “Best Arts Advocate” by the Rocky Mountain News; in 2007 she received attention for her work in Denver in Art in America. Her work is represented by Plus Gallery in Denver, and has been shown in regional galleries and museums for the past 15 years; currently she also shows regularly in Toronto.
